As lover’s of Jesus or "good people,” I feel like we can climb up on our self-righteous perch and tend to deflect responsibility from our daily and destructive sins – weighing them against the perceived egregious sins of others.

Interestingly enough, of all the things, specifically listed, that God hates, only one falls into our typical definition of egregious sins. We should all be careful that we know what actually infuriates God based on what He says, not based on our own assessment or opinion. More importantly, if we expect God to actively listen to us, abundantly bless us, and cover us with His protection, we should make sure we haven’t run right out from under His protective umbrella; “For my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.” God.
Let's take a look at what the Good Book says...
Who perversely in his heart plots trouble and evil continually; who spreads discord and strife. Therefore [the crushing weight of] his disaster will come suddenly upon him; instantly he will be broken, and there will be no healing or remedy [because he has no heart for God].
These six things the Lord hates; indeed, seven are repulsive to Him... — A PROUD LOOK [attitude that makes one overestimate oneself and discount others]
— LYING TONGUE — Hands that SHED INNOCENT BLOOD — A heart that creates WICKED PLANS [manipulation] — Feet that RUN SWIFTLY TO EVIL [quick to share information that will hurt others] — A false witness who breathes out LIES [even half-truths] — And one who SPREADS DISCORD [rumors] among brothers
Proverbs 16:27-28 A worthless man devises and digs up evil and the words on his lips are like a scorching fire. A perverse man spreads strife, and one who gossips separates intimate friends.
Proverbs 11:9, 12-14 With his mouth, the godless man destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge and discernment, the righteous will be rescued. He who despises his neighbor [friend, loved one, spouse] lacks sense, but a man of understanding keeps silent. He who goes about as a gossip reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy and faithful keeps a matter hidden. Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall, but in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors, there is victory.
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.
Matthew 12:36 But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for EVERY careless or useless word they speak. I hope you'll consider joining my journey of healing. Subscribe for updates!
Feel free to share your thoughts, struggle, and overcoming tips. I'm sure they will spark another element of my healing journey. If you feel my journey is helping you along yours, or you think it will help someone else in your world, please share this. If COVID taught us anything, it's no matter if you're an introvert or inward thinker, isolation and the sense of being alone is pure torture. Let's not do this alone!
You're always welcome!
